Lutheran Day of Service 2011

As we embark on a new season at Resurrection, we turn our focus to the faith practice of service. Let’s be honest – it can sometimes be hard to find family service opportunities. This year, Lutheran organizations in the Atlanta area have organized a Lutheran Day of Service on Monday, January 17. Schools are closed – instead of staying cooped up in the house all day, why not use the day off to serve those who need it most?

For more information about how to get involved with this year’s Day of Service, check out our Living Our Faith Blog.

Christmas Cookies for Santa!

Parents – are you looking for a time when you can get those last minute items completed prior to the Christmas Eve Service? Drop your children off in the Gathering Room any time between 1-5pm on Christmas Eve to select, make, bake and decorate Christmas cookies for Santa while you finish those last minute errands! Crafts will also be provided to fill in the times between cookie phases.

For more information, contact Olwynne Crampton at 770-558-3958.

Adults Needed for Win Our World 2011!

It may be hard to believe, but registration for Win Our World (WOW) opens in two weeks!

This year we took 20 middle & high school youth! In 2011, the number of youth we are able to take will depend on how many adults we have who are able to commit. We need at least 1 adult for every 5 youth and at least 1 male and 1 female. In order to take the same number of youth in 2011 as we did in 2010, we need 4 adults – 2 male and 2 female. Please consider this transformative opportunity – your life won’t be the same after a week at WOW!

What is WOW?
WOW stands for Win Our World and was created in 2003 by teenagers, for teenagers. The mission of WOW is to be a Christ focused, youth led ministry that provides faith formation, leadership development, and service opportunities – in creative collaboration to build a strong, loving community.

WOW has been life-changing for several of our youth and we look forward to attending again in 2011.

When Is WOW?
In the past, we have attended WOW the week after July 4th. This year, we are looking at two possible weeks: June 5-10, 2011 and July 10-15, 2011. Please let us know which week you would be able to attend!

What’s Required of Me As an Adult?
Because WOW is youth-led and youth-organized, adults serve as older participants, drivers, encouragers, and behind-the-scenes support. You would be required to participate in the event fully and would stay with the youth in their assigned rooms.

I Might Be Interested, But I Have Questions
Please feel free to call or email me at any time with questions! In addition, Danny Ritchie, David Rowe and Kriss Nelson have all attended WOW as adult participants and would be more than happy to share their stories with you.

If you think you may be able to attend, please let me know by Sunday, November 14. We will pick a week and reserve our initial number of spots for WOW on Monday, November 15.

College Connection!

We just sent out our first ever College Connection Newsletter.  Check it out here:

First Communion

This coming Sunday 9 youth will receive their first communion – 2 at the 8:30 service and 7 at the 11:00 service.  These youth and their families participated in Formal Communion Instruction last Sunday with Pastor Dave and then traveled to Sip ‘n Stroke to paint the chalices they will use to assist with communion on Sunday.

There will be a brief reception for these children and their families on Sunday at 9:45 in the Gathering Room. We are very excited to help celebrate this important milestone in the faith journeys of these children and we welcome them at God’s table!

If you have a child younger than 4th grade that you believe is ready to receive communion, please contact Pastor Dave to setup a time for individual instruction.

October Youth Fun

October is a fun month in the life of youth at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. Mark your calendars for two upcoming youth events – you won’t want to miss them!

We’re Locking You In!

Who?
All 6th-12th graders are invited! And yes, you can bring a friend.

What?
We’ll meet in the Sanctuary at 6:00pm and begin with worship. Parents, please join us for our Opening Worship service! Then we’ll eat together, work together, and play together! Our primary task for the lock-in will be to plan the Youth-led worship services for December 5th. Then on Sunday, we’ll go to the 8:30am service together and you can head home after Sunday school!

When?
October 16-17 (that’s a Saturday night – Sunday)

Where?
LCR … it’s a lock-in silly … once you’re in, you can’t get out until the next morning!

Why?
Because planning worship is a great way to grow your faith, there’s no set bedtime, and it’s way fun to stay up most of the night with some of your favorite people!

How Much?
FREE!

What Else?
Make sure you bring your creativity, your comfy clothes, overnight toiletries, a sleeping bag and pillow, a Bible, and a willingness to work hard and have tons of fun.  There’s a sign-up in the Sanctuary Lobby – please sign up so that we know how many people to prepare for!

Let’s Celebrate Fall Together at Cagle’s Family Farm!

Who?
All 6th-12th grade youth. Of course you can bring your friend!

What?
We’ll meet at the church at 5:00pm and head to the Canton farm, where we’ll find our way through the corn maize, go for a hayride, and enjoy roasting hot dogs and marshmallows by the bonfire! We should be back to the church around 10:00pm (but will call when we are on our way back!)

When?
Saturday, October 30

How much?
It’s $25/person and that includes the corn maize, hayride, bonfire, marshmallows, hot dogs, and transportation. New this year is a Haunted House – if you want to go in it, it’s an extra $8.

What Else?
Please sign up in the Sanctuary lobby. We need plenty of time to arrange for faithful adults to help drive and spend the evening with us!

Parents – We need you!

The number of active youth in our ministry events continues to grow, and we are always looking for adults to pitch in and serve as drivers, faithful adults present in the life of our youth, and just overall good role models in general. If you can help with either of these events or future events, please let Crystal know!

Fall Kicks Off Tomorrow!

Wear your casual clothes, cram everyone in the car and spend the day at LCR! The day looks something like this:

8:30 am: Traditional service in the Sanctuary – including a dedication of the sanctuary and Bible Presentation to 10 children!

9:45 am: Sunday school starts for ALL ages! Ages 2-8th grade meet in the downstairs of the main building, 9th-12th grade meet in the Youth Pavilion, and the large adult class that normally meets in the Gathering Room will meet in the Sanctuary.

11:00 am: Blended service in the Sanctuary – including a dedication of the sanctuary and Bible Presentation to 19 children!

12:00-3:00pm: Fall Kickoff Festival & Ministry Fair – catered by BBQ1, there will be all sorts of games, entertainment, and fun! You’ll want to make sure to come dunk Pastor Dave in the dunk tank!

4:00-7:00pm: Our Confirmation students will be hosting Circle of Friends and our theme will be Dr. Seuss.

Tomorrow will be a day full of excitement and fun – you won’t want to miss it!
